The mayor of Grand Isle has called for a voluntary evacuation for the area due to possible impacts from Tropical Storm Gordon.

In a memo posted to the city’s Facebook page, Mayor David Camardelle wrote that due to ongoing construction on Louisiana 1, traffic will be severely affected and could cause severe problems for those evacuating.

A tropical storm warning is in effect for Lower Jefferson Parish.

Grand Isle School will be closed Tuesday (Sept. 4), the mayor also said.
